Born on the first day of spring in 1995 curiously, just four days after Luca Fazzini, Mirco Müller has now also decided to extend his contract with Hockey Club Lugano through to the end of the 2031/32 season.
We are talking about a defensive cornerstone of the team over the past five seasons, a highly reliable player who has become increasingly connected emotionally with the group, the coaching staff and the environment.
The 31-year-old from Winterthur (193 cm, 94 kg), born on March 21, 1995, joined the Cornèr Arena in 2021 after spending eight years in North America following his first-round selection by the San Jose Sharks in the 2013 NHL Draft, where he was picked 18th overall.
During his time overseas, Müller recorded a total of 134 appearances in the WHL, 188 NHL games and 145 AHL games.
In his five seasons with HCL, Mirco has consistently ranked among the team’s best players in plus/minus statistics, always finishing on the positive side. Last season, with three goals and sixteen assists, he also appeared more frequently on the scoresheet.
Over the course of his career, he has represented Switzerland at one U18 World Championship, three U20 World Championships, two World Championships with the senior national team, winning the silver medal in Copenhagen in 2018 and at the 2022 Olympic Games.
This is what Hockey Club Lugano General Manager Janick Steinmann had to say:
“Mirco is a center piece of our defensive core and one of the very best defensive players in the entire National League. Throughout last season, he showed every night how important he is to our team. I’m very happy that he chose to stay with us for many years and, in doing so, demonstrated great trust in what we are building.”
