Hockey Club Lugano invests in the future and confirms its commitment to building solid and lasting foundations. The organization club is pleased to announce that it has recently extended the current contract of Lorenzo Canonica (born 2003).
The 22-year-old forward has agreed to an early extension of his deal, originally valid until 2027, through the end of the 2028/29 season.
A renewal that strengthens the identity and soul of the team. “Lollo” is in fact an authentic expression of HCL’s DNA: a homegrown talent and a shared story that now gains a new chapter.
After standing out at youth level – earning call-ups to two U20 World Championships – Canonica became the youngest player to make his debut in club history, stepping onto the ice at just 16 years of age on November 2, 2019 in Geneva. Between 2020 and 2023 he wore the jersey of the Shawinigan Cataractes in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, recording 124 points in 159 games, before returning to the Cornèr Arena.
A fast, complete two-ways forward, Lorenzo has truly broken out offensively in the current season, collecting 13 goals and 7 assists in 40 games. Even more telling is his plus/minus statistic, which currently sees him ranked first among HCL players and fifth overall in the National League with a +20.
Hockey Club Lugano General Manager Janick Steinmann commented as follows:
“Lollo Canonica has developed into a very solid two-way forward and is an important piece of our puzzle. His work ethic, personality and style of play fit perfectly with our new philosophy and culture. I am truly happy to have him on board for the coming seasons.”
