Calvin Thürkauf is a Swiss forward born in Zug on June 27, 1997, and since 2022 the captain of Hockey Club Lugano. A symbol of charisma, dedication, and black-and-white spirit, he is the cornerstone of our team and one of the most dominant players in the National League.
Developed in the EV Zug system, he tested himself in North America with three WHL seasons at the Kelowna Rockets, where he quickly became a key figure. Drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2016, he gained experience with the Cleveland Monsters in the AHL and made appearances in the NHL, enriching his game at the highest level.
His return to Switzerland marked a new chapter: in the summer of 2021 he embraced the Lugano project, immediately winning the fans’ hearts with his relentless work ethic, intensity, and leadership. Season after season, Calvin established himself as an undisputed leader both on and off the ice, earning the “C” on his chest.
The breakthrough came in the 2023/24 season, when he became the National League’s top scorer with 60 points (28 goals and 32 assists in 52 games), earning the title of League MVP. A confirmation of his status as a complete forward—able to score, set up teammates, and carry the team in crucial moments.
At 188 cm and 92 kg, Thürkauf embodies the modern power forward: imposing frame, powerful skating, silky hands, and a fierce mentality that never gives up. He makes the difference in every situation: net-front battles, key faceoffs, penalty kills, and clutch finishes.
