Goaltender Yannis Zambelli and defenseman Niccolò Castiglioni, both born in 2008, have been named in Switzerland’s U18 preselection for the U18 World Championship, which will take place from April 18 to 24 in Krynica-Zdroj, Poland.
The team led by Patrick Schöb will gather from April 7 in Herisau for the first phase of preparation, which will continue from April 13 at the tournament venue. A third young Lugano player of the same age, forward Ryan Bizzozero, has also been named as standby.
Two other Swiss national teams will compete in tournaments during the month of April.
The U19 team, coached for the first time by Luca Cereda, will take part in the Five Nations Tournament in Kungsbacka, Sweden, from April 13 to 20. Among the selected players are forwards Anton Besanidis, Marc Bissig and Cyrill Henry (all born in 2007), while fellow forward Davide Togni is listed as standby.
The U17 national team will instead be in Seinäjoki, Finland, also from April 13 to 20. Among the players selected by head coach Fabio Schumacher, defenseman Fabio Bissig (born in 2009) is listed as standby.
