It’s the middle of summer, but the Hockey Club Lugano Youth Section never slows down. Proud to have regained in the 2024/25 season, with over 100 new members, the numbers seen before the pandemic, the Bianconeri Youth Section will start again on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 with the Hockey School, this year open to girls and boys born in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. Registration details and information can be found at hclugano.ch/scuola_hockey.asp, with the CHF 200 membership fee payable after the trial lessons.

Twenty-three teams are registered for the various national youth championships. The flagship will be the U21 Elit coached by Raffaele Sannitz. A prestigious new entry to the U18 Elit staff: head coach Jason Fritsche will be assisted by Mark Arcobello. After 519 National League games, the almost 37-year-old American forward has ended his 20-year professional career and will take his first steps in the youth sector, where his experience will be a major asset for both player development and coach growth.

Christian Stucki will coordinate the U16 coaches, Edoardo Raimondi the U14, Max Cordiano the U12, and Alain Pasqualino the U9 and Hockey School teams. All age groups will benefit from the expertise of specialist coaches Paolo Della Bella (goalies), Flavien Conne (skills & skating), and Jean Pierre Blazek (fitness).

Throughout the season, first team players will take turns joining some U9 and U12 practices, sharing their technical skills and enthusiasm.

In addition to the well-established visits by the first team to Ticino schools, the “School on Ice” initiative will continue. This program, which last season involved 18 classes and over 300 children, sees the Youth Section visit kindergartens with its own van and equipment, followed by an invitation to join a personalized hockey lesson on ice and attend a first team game with parents.

The strong bond between the Bianconeri colors and youth will be further highlighted by two dedicated National League games: the Helsana Family Day on Sunday, October 5, 2025 against Kloten (2:00 p.m.) and the Academy Match on Sunday, December 7, 2025 against Bern (3:45 p.m.).

With 420 members last season, the Youth Section looks to the future with passion and determination. It is now financially self-sufficient — a remarkable achievement in today’s economic and social climate.

This success is possible thanks to the dedication of over 120 volunteers, the generous support of the HC Lugano Academy Foundation and other sponsors, and the success of long-standing initiatives such as the “Casetta Gialla” and the annual Skateathon.
