HCL - Two extensions and a new addition for the future

The Hockey Club Lugano is pleased to announce two contract extensions and a new addition for the future.

Goaltender Niklas Schlegel, born in 1994, will wear the black and white jersey until the end of the 2027/28 season. Niklas is currently playing his twelfth season in the National League, his seventh with HCL. During his career, highlighted by the 2018 Swiss Championship title won with the ZSC Lions, he has appeared in 325 NL games, including 189 for Lugano. In the ongoing regular season, he ranks as the sixth-best goaltender statistically, with a save percentage of 92.34%.

Forward Marco Zanetti, born in 2002, has also signed a new two-year contract, valid until the 2027/28 season. A fast and dynamic winger, he is in his fourth season with Lugano, having played 177 games (32 points). A product of the HCL youth academy since the Mini category and already a two-time WC participant with the Italian National team, Marco is having a solid season, as shown by his time on ice of nearly eleven minutes per game.

The new face for the future is Daniel Olsson. Born in Copenhagen on June 1, 2005, and developed within the ZSC Lions organization, Daniel has won several national U17 and U20 Elite titles. Left-handed forward (190 cm x 87 kg) with Danish citizenship but Swiss Licence, he will play at the Cornèr Arena for the next two seasons. Here the statement of HCL General Manager Janick Steinmann:

“Daniel has played the last two seasons within the ZSC Lions/GCK Lions organization. I’m very happy about that Daniel signed with HCL because he is a very interesting prospect, who has great potential to become a very good forward in the National League. His size and speed are at a veryhigh level, and I’m very sure that our environment and coaching staff can help him develop to the next level.”

HC Lugano finally announces that it has extended the agreement with Zug for the loan of Samuel Guerra until January 31, 2026.
