TheHockey Club Lugano is proud to report that as many as four boys trained in its youth sector will compete in the U20 World Championships scheduled to be held in Halifax and Moncton (Canada) starting today.
Brian Zanetti will take to the track with the Swiss national team. Class of 2003, Brian is playing his third World Cup at the junior level. Among the star players in past years with the HCL U20 (86 games, 56 points), the defenseman was drafted in 2021 by the Philadelphia Flyers (NHL) and for the past two seasons has been playing for the Peterborough Petes participating in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
Lorenzo Canonica will also wear the Red Swiss jersey. Class of 2003, Lorenzo is about to play his second world championship at junior level. Featured very young with the HCL U20 (71 games, 62 points), the forward is playing his third championship with the Shawinigan Cataractes in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
Roberts Cjunskis will play the World Cup with the Latvian national team's jersey. Class of 2003, the forward born in Marupe, Latvia, is part of the Youth Section ofHockey Club Lugano from the Mini Top category and has already taken part in the U18 World Cup in 2021. With the HCL U20 jersey he has played 105 games so far, accounting for 77 points.
Emils Veckaktins, a forward born in 2004 in Ogre, Latvia, joined Cornèr Arena in 2019. Already featured in the 2021 U18 World Cup with his home country, he has played 75 games with the U20s bianconeri, collecting 62 points.
