In front of an enthusiastic crowd (6491 spectators), HC Lugano offered its supporters a thrilling 3-2 victory against the Swiss champions HC Davos.
A hard and well deserved victory which arrived in the last five minutes of the game. First Filppula from the slot and then an unstoppable Bertaggia, with a remarkable pass by Furrer, beat the excellent Genoni and reversed the score, favorable to HC Davos until then.
The Bianconeri, still without Brunner and Stapleton, played the first period in the trenches, opposed to a Davos that confirmed its value in terms of intensity and aggression. The remarkable saves by Merzlikins and a breakaway by Bertaggia in shorthander fixed the score of the first period to 1-0.
Minute after minute Shedden's team improved and the game became intense and spectacular. Lindgren tied the game before the end of the second period.
The third period was very open and HC Davos scored first with young Sieber. But Hirschi and teammates didn’t give up. The final 3-2 win was a Christmas present for all HC Lugano fans, with the team celebrating on the ice at the end of the game, and a festive atmosphere that went on inside the marquee of the “DNA Bianconero & Events”.
And now it is time for Spengler Cup...
