HC Lugano‘s six game-run ended at Hallenstadion as they lost 4-2 to the current league leader ZSC Lions.
The score does not represent what happened on the ice. The Bianconeri fought hard and controlled the puck for long stretches of time. The Lions however, have proved to be more concrete. Bergeron scored the opening goal just 16 seconds into their 5 on 3 powerplay, and Wick scored two goals within few minutes in the second half.
HC Lugano worked hard, but it has not been one of the best nights offensively. The first offensive lineup with the three Swedes was on the ice when Ulmer and Pettersson scored, but also when Wick scored twice. The first time with a quick transition and the second time after a faceoff situation.
Both teams had to deal with several absent players from the lineups. The Lions had to cope with various injuries and absences due to the Swiss U20 National team while HCL, beside the long-term injured Steinmann and Morini, had to deal with the absences of Brunner and Filppula (sick) as well as the one of Stapleton, dealing with back problems after the morning practice.
