The Hockey Club Lugano announces to have signed a contract for the season 2017/2018 with the option for another season with the American defenseman Bobby Sanguinetti, born 29.02.1988 in Trenton, New Jersey.
Sanguinetti (86 kg. X 190 cm.) is a "right" defenseman with good skating, nice vision and very good puck moving skills.
He showed himself at early age in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Owen Sound Attack's jersey, and he was drafted in 2006 by the New York Rangers, his favourite team, as 21st overall and participated to a U20 World Championship with the USA Jersey.
He played mostly in the New York Rangers farm team, the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL where he had some significant stats in the two seasons he played (145 games, 85 points), playing two times the AHL All Star Game.
Afterwards, he went to the Carolina Hurricanes and he played between the NHL and the AHl with the Charlotte Checkers, where he confirmed his offensive awareness (137 games, 88 points).
After having played some games in the KHL with the Atlant Mytischi, Sanguinetti came back to North America, playing for the Vancouver Canucks and the relative Farm Team, the Utica Comets (84 games, 54 points, best defenseman of the playoff), and for the Buffalo Sabres and the Rochester Americans, their farm team.
During the season 2016/2017 he arrived in Switzerland, where he was one of Kloten's leaders (44 games, 29 points) and he won the Swiss Cup.
These are the words of the Head Coach Greg Ireland on the new player:
"I'm very happy that Bobby is a part of our team. He's a real team leader. He has nice skating skills and handles the puck well in every zone of the rink. He'll be a strong presence in the powerplay too".
