Not an impressive performance but still three important points in the race to playoffs. This is the summary of HC Lugano 3-2 victory in Bienne, in the first of two games against the same opponent this weekend.
Lugano did not control the game as they wanted. Surprised by Bienne’s aggressivity in the first minutes of the game, the first period ended with Lugano ahead 1-0 on Pettersson’s power play goal in a 5 on 3 situation. In the first minutes of the second period another power play goal by Martensson, who scored on a rebound by Rytz after a shot by Stapleton, raised the score to 2-0. The third goal by Stapleton seemed to ensure the victory for the Bianconeri.
However the hosts insisted, although confusedly, and due to lack of concentration by Hirschi and teammates, they came back into the game with a goal by Dave Sutter. After the post hit by Bertaggia, Spylo literally invented the second goal for Bienne and the final minutes of the game were hectic.
The best player for the Bianconeri was Merzlikins again, who made some crucial saves. With each passing minute, the team instead slightly lost control of the game. This evening however the power play started to be efficient again.
More discipline and intensity will be needed in round two at the Resega on Sunday (3:45 p.m.).
